Oct. 31, 2000 -- Today I received and installed the Kuryakyn 4050 Dually highway pegs. The installation at first was a bit irritating, because the fit on the right side is not 100% perfect, and has to be adjusted. Once you know the trick on how to get the adjustment right, it goes a bit smoother. The problem is that the "support lever" which contacts the underside of the valve cover does not have enough clearance, and if you install the mount "as is" the "swing arm" will actually hit the side of the valve cover and if you try to tighten it down you will damage something (either the arm or the valve cover, or even worse, damage the mount). The trick is to install the entire peg, mount and all, but not tighten down the four mounting bolts. Then sit on the bike and put your foot gently on the peg. That will cause the rubber bumper to compress and then you can tighten down the four mount bolts. This is a pretty simple explanation and there's a bit more to it than that, but that's the high point. If you need more details, email me.
By the way, the kit comes with two LONG support levers and two SHORT support levers. You use the SHORT levers -- the LONG levers are for a Goldwing if I remember correctly.
For now, here's a real crude drawing trying to explain how these pegs should be installed.
How do they work once installed? I like them. You can see from these pics how I oriented them. I'm 6'3" and this position is good if you have a backrest. If you don't have a backrest this position may be a bit of a stretch. The one bad thing about this position is that the pegs won't fold up all the way, so they usually end up falling back down and they will scrape on sharper turns. Other than that they're just fine.
